BIOGRAPHY

Benjamin Aribisala is a Professor of Computer Science in Lagos State University. He obtained his PhD degree in Computer Science from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. His PhD research was in medical image analysis and computer vision with special interest in malignant melanoma, a type of skin lesion. Immediately after completing his PhD research, Professor Aribisala joined Newcastle University and conducted research in the field of computational neuroscience using magnetic resonance brain imaging technology. His focus in Newcastle was on development of models for detecting disease processes in the Central Nervous System using quantitative multi-modal magnetic resonance imaging parameters. From Newcastle, Professor Aribisala moved to the University of Edinburgh where his research focused on cognitive ageing and brain structural imaging using magnetic resonance imaging.  He joined Lagos State University as a full professor in March 2013.

Professor Aribisala combines his expertise in Computer Science, Mathematics and Medical Image Analysis to conduct clinical research. His current research focuses on developing methodology for processing and analysis of brain magnetic resonance images with the aim of helping clinicians with early and improved diagnosis of neuropsychological conditions. He is also interested in understanding how brain structural changes relate to cognitive ability at old age. His current research interests span the fields of medical image analysis, computational neuroscience, computer vision and brain imaging using magnetic resonance imaging techniques.

He has published several academic articles and given presentations to both local and international audience all over the world, ranging from Nigeria to USA, China, Canada, Austria, Germany, Portugal and United Kingdom. He currently collaborates with scholars in Newcastle University, University of Edinburgh and Herriot Watt University. Professor Aribisala has passion for research and derives pleasure in building new generation of Computer Scientists and raising leaders.

RESEARCH/EXPERTISE SUMMARY

My research interest is in area of Artificial Intelligence and Computer vision, in particular medical image analysis. I am also interested in many other inter-related areas of computer science, these include: Pattern recognition, signal processing, Computer vision, Computer graphics, Brain imaging, machine learning, magnetic resonance imaging, modelling & simulation, and mathematical modelling. I use scientific principles and approaches to solve clinical problems. The goal of my research is to improve diagnosis and quality of life.
